Third Party Application Integration

Southern Geoscience Consultants (SGC) is a group of highly experienced geophysicists based in Perth, Western Australia, who provide independent, specialised consulting services to the mineral and petroleum exploration industries globally.

The Brief

The Southern Geoscience website required some custom WordPress development to integrate with their Image Robot application. Further development work was required to create post types for multi-client airborne geophysical data and apply that data as KML information overlaid on a Google map. Blue Kelpie also created custom post types for Publications and News items.

Since going live SGC has also entrusted Blue Kelpie with hosting their website to ensure smooth day to day operations and to improve performance through our cloud hosting and Content Distribution Network (CDN).

Design

The design of the Southern Geoscience Consultants website was done by our colleagues at Media Highway. Kelsey Allen took the following approach to the design of the site.

The Southern Geoscience Consultants website contains a considerable amount of content for geoscientists and surveyors and this information needs to be easily found and displayed cleanly. As a geoscience website with strong a corporate feel we drew upon the blue colours of the logo to create a traditional and professional design that would last for many years to come.

WordPress Development

The integration of Image Robot, a C++ application with WordPress required custom code (PHP) to parse data about images ordered through the application and create an order in the website to enable payment. Security checks were created to ensure the order was valid and that the number images also matched up. A number of functions were required to integrate with the Woocommerce checkout process.

Further development was required to create a number of custom post types (CPT) to store information about multi-client survey data and to add News and Publications files and posts. The multi-client survey data was then presented as KML overlays on Google Maps (as seen above). The overlays contain information specific to survey site which appears as a popup once the area is clicked on the map.

The Outcome

Blue Kelpie delivered on all aspects of the brief integrating Image Robot with Woocommerce to process orders from the application through the website. The multi-client survey data provides end users with a quick and simple reference point for dozens of survey sites across Western Australia. Publications and News items are easily viewed and maintained by the SGC staff using the front end forms to create, edit and delete posts and files.
